Painting Mushrooms, Amanita muscaria

Hey there! Today, I’m sharing the first of my mushroom painting series. I’ve added a quick timelapse below of the digital painting created in Procreate, showcasing the process of painting this mushroom.

Getting Started with References When diving into a painting, having reference photos is crucial for capturing the details accurately. If you can’t find your subject in real life, platforms like Pinterest offer a lots of mushroom images to inspire your artwork.

Sketching and Basic Colors Once I’ve gathered my references, I begin by sketching the mushroom’s shape and structure. Then, I lay down the basic colors to see how they work together.

Adding Depth and Dimension The next phase involves layering colors to introduce variations, adding shading to create depth, and focusing on lighting to bring the mushroom to life. This process helps in achieving a realistic and dynamic look for the painting.

Background and Final Touches While I usually leave the background for the end in my digital paintings, it can vary depending on the artwork’s requirements. Whether it’s a simple backdrop or a detailed environment, the background complements the mushroom, tying the entire composition together.
